Is that still valid? Because I know that yesterday some people were getting the 'map is under maintenance, please try again later' message, but it was okay after few minutes.

Yes, when server close and goes online, always it opens the gameserver first then the zones... thats why it shows u "under maintenance" just w8 a few minutes more and u will be able to log in.
